Constitution Hill continued to show plenty of promise on the Flat after finishing fifth in the Gran Premio del Jockey Club in Italy last Sunday.
The 2023 Champion Hurdle winner turned to Flat racing earlier in the year and this was his first outing on turf.
Constitution Hill, trained by Nicky Henderson at Seven Barrows in Lambourn, was very much in the contest for most of the mile-and-a-half race.
He was running well towards the rear of the field, but he couldn’t find that extra burst and eventually came home fifth behind German winner Stingray.
After a glittering career over hurdles, Constitution Hill suffered a disastrous run of luck in 2024.
He suffered a respiratory problem and suspected colic, ruling time out for most of the season.
And on his return, he fell three times in four outings, prompting Henderson to switch him to the Flat.
Constitution Hill made a flying start, winning his first two races on all-weather circuits at Southwell and Kempton.
He then finished an impressive fourth when stepping up to Group Three level for the September Stakes.
That was enough for Henderson to enter him in the Group Two race at the San Siro in Milan on Sunday, ridden by Rossa Ryan, and he proved that he still has the potential to be a star on the Flat.
