Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard would consider a switch to Bayern Munich, according to reports in the German media.
Sky Sport Deutschland claim that there has been “repeated contact” between the player and representatives of the Bundesliga giants in recent years.
While a move did not transpire in previous transfer windows, the idea is reportedly gaining “new momentum” due to Odegaard’s contract situation.
The Norwegian international’s current deal at the Emirates expires at the end of next season.
It is believed that the Premier League champions have held informal talks with Odegaard and his agent about extending his stay at the Emirates.
However, no formal offer has been made yet, and if an agreement between the two parties isn’t reached by next summer, a difficult decision will have to be made about his future.
Sky claim that the Gunners will not let him leave on a free transfer in 2028, so his sale would be sanctioned if a renewal isn’t signed.
While the German club’s interest is being talked up, it appears that they are not actively pursuing Odegaard’s signature, despite having discussed a potential transfer in the past. They are not thought to be in the market for a player of his profile.
You do get the feeling that this information has been leaked by agents, who are trying to put pressure on Arsenal to hand him a fresh contract.
You can understand why Mikel Arteta’s side would hesitate to some extent. Odegaard has had a strong start to this season, but his form has fluctuated over the past few years, and he has started to pick up more and more injuries.
Both Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta will have to decide whether the club’s talisman’s recent contributions are enough for a renewal to be offered.
