Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has weighed in on the situation at Manchester United just months after missing out on a return to the hot seat at Old Trafford.
The Norwegian spent 11 seasons of his playing career at the club before stepping into the head coach role in December 2018.
Solskjaer took United to a second-place finish in the league in 2020/21, but was sacked in November later in the year after a poor start to 2021/22.
Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster TV2, the 53-year-old has reopened the door to coaching Manchester United once again, but has found a comfortable role in the meantime.
The broadcaster has revealed that Solskjaer now spends time with local club FCK’s junior team and A-team in the fourth division of Norwegian football.
The 53-year-old wants to return to full-blown management when the opportunity arises, but emphasised to them that he enjoys life in Kristiansund.
Such a role is befitting of the character of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who represents a calm and assured figure.
He is seemingly not looking to race his way back into just any role in football, over a year after departing Besiktas.
The love held of United, though, is too much for him to overlook. “I also feel like I have some unfinished business [at Old Trafford]. Naturally, it would have been fun to have the opportunity again.”
Carrick won the role in January 2026 and did a terrific job of getting Manchester United into the Champions League.
No side picked up more points than United following the former midfielder’s appointment, but the Red Devils have started the new season in appalling form.
Carrick is under severe pressure, with the club reportedly set to reassess his position in the upcoming international break.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may just hope that he finds himself in the position to run for the job once again, but it’s a likelihood that may just be in the past now.
