New Zealand batter Devon Conway has been ruled out of the first ODI against India after suffering a concussion from a collision with Matt Henry during a training session.

The incident happened at Eden Park on Tuesday, when the two players collided while attempting to take a catch. Both received immediate medical attention and underwent head injury assessments, according to New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

While Henry's condition is being monitored, Conway was taken to hospital for further examination, which confirmed a concussion.

"Both players will continue to be monitored and their involvement in the ODI series against India will be updated in due course," NZC said in a statement.

Henry himself is returning from an injury, having missed the last three T20Is against India with a low-grade tear in his right quadriceps. New Zealand have been hit by a series of other injury setbacks ahead of the ODI series. Mark Chapman (hamstring) and Rachin Ravindra (shoulder) have already been ruled out of the series.
