We’ve all been excited to see Mike Penders play for Chelsea ever since we signed him. His first start in the Premier League couldn’t have gone much worse, as he scored an own goal a week ago against our rivals Spurs.
He needed immediate redemption, and some good saves against Liverpool in midweek was a great start. However it was always going to need more than that. Today he made a superb fingertip save in extra time to keep a much needed home clean sheet intact.
The way he celebrated it showed how much he was feeling the pressure and the need to impress, especially at home.

He’s still got a lot of learning to do. The weakness in his game that a lot of people noticed before his arrival at Chelsea this summer was that he would often spill saves into the danger area. He did that today in the first half when the game was 0-0, and was lucky it didn’t cost his team.
But nevertheless it was another encouraging performance and we hope to see more of them in the games before Emi Martinez returns.
Chelsea fans were loving another young player today – Estevao got a huge ovation when he was taken off.
Morgan Rogers scored a brilliant goal to open this game up, tearing through the Manchester United defence after the break.
