The Florida State Seminoles now have 14 commitments in their 2027 recruiting class after three-star wide receiver Majay Thompson decommitted on Sunday. Things like this are expected to happen when a staff gets shaken up.
Now that a new era is on the horizon for FSU football, one of the first orders of business is to address the upcoming recruiting cycle. The early signing period is a month away, and national signing day in February will be here before you know it. It will be important for the Seminoles to keep as many of their commitments as possible and not rely so heavily on the transfer portal as they have in the last few offseasons.
Their 2027 class isn't ranked that high, but Florida State has talent that they need to make sure doesn't get out of Tallahassee. Here are five commitments that they need to keep.
This piggybacks off the transfer portal point. FSU has started a quarterback from the portal in each of the last three seasons, and the results haven't been great whatsoever. They need to develop a quarterback from the recruiting side, and Flaherty has a ton of upside as a dual-threat type of player. He's already announced that he's staying true to his commitment, and he's also been adamant about recruiting other players to Florida State.
Foreman is undoubtedly one of the most important recruits for FSU to keep. He is the type of ball hawk that the Seminoles need in their secondary, as he registered 10 interceptions as a junior with 11 pass breakups at Plantation High School before transferring to West Boca Raton High School for his senior year. He spoke about still being committed to Florida State despite the coaching change, but he also said he needs to think about it. He needs to be a high priority.
Miles is a player that will be difficult to keep, with the LSU Tigers upping their efforts to flip him, and the fact that he's a native of the state of Louisiana. He's an explosive runner that can hit his head on the goal post at any moment, and those types of runners are always valuable. Plus, with Ousmane Kromah suffering a season-ending ankle/foot injury, the Seminoles need more bodies at running back, along with freshman Amari Thomas and Sam Singleton Jr. for next year if he returns.
LeJeune is the second-highest ranked prospect that FSU has in 2027. He's quick off the line of scrimmage and his strength as a state champion power lifter in Mississippi are qualifies that make for a very good interior player. The Seminoles haven't had a dominant force on their defensive line in a while, and a player like LeJeune has the potential to be that early in his career. Games are won in the trenches, which makes LeJeune a prospect that Florida State needs to hold on to.
Poole is the crown jewel of FSU's 2027 class as their top-ranked recruit and their only top 75 player. He excels at the safety position at Howard High School in Georgia, as he's registered 42 tackles, three tackles for loss, and four interceptions as a senior. He's also produced greatly on offense with 677 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, plus 121 yards and a score as a runner. Poole has expressed his willingness to stay at Florida State despite the coaching change, and they need to ensure that he keeps feeling that way going forward.
