A fabulous display from Ultan Kelm swept a clinical Erne Gaels side to their third county title in a row in Brewster Park.

Man of the match Kelm hit 1-7 in a display for the ages, and he had huge support from Jack McCann, Eamon Og Magee and Tommy McCaffrey in particular.

The winners dominated the opening half and led by 1-9 to 0-0 five minutes from the break.

Derrygonnelly staged a strong revival in the dying minutes following a few costly turnovers by the winners as Belleek led by 1-9 to 0-6 at the break.

The momentum was with the Harps, but when Belleek’s Jack McCann hit the first point for Belleek the die was cast.

Derrygonnelly battled to the bitter end and had the benefit of an Erne Gaels own goal.

But they were not able to penetrate a tight Erne Gaels defence.

And Kelm, Dan McCann, Ultan O’Reilly and Shane Mimna were all on the score sheet.

Erne Gaels got the better start as Aogan Kelm and Dan McCann eased them into a 0-2 to 0-0 lead in a tense opening ten minutes.

The county champions were mopping up all the breaks and Ultan Kelm hoofed over a mighty two-pointer for the Belleek men as they led by 0-4 to 0-0 after 12 minutes.

The Harps had a few sporadic attacks but hit three wides from scorable slots as the Belleek men were in total control.

Veteran Brian Mullin then found a gap and landed a soaring point for Erne Gaels.

And it got even better for Barry O’Hagan’s men as Ultan Kelm got on the end of a sweeping move and rammed the ball to the Harps net.

He then landed a fine 45 as Jack McCann and a two-pointer from his brother Dan McCann had the score at 1-9 to 0-0 lead.

But Harps keeper Jack Kelly landed a 45 for the Harps.

And Derrygonnelly made full use of two Belleek turnovers as Gary McKenna landed a fine two-pointer.

Suddenly the Harps were alive as Oisin Smyth and McKenna halved the deficit, as the Gaels led by 1-9 to 0-6 at the break.

Jack McCann got the first score of the second half as the game exploded to life.

Ultan Kelm and Harps sub Jarlath Flanagan (a two-pointer) swapped scores.

Aogan Kelm and corner back Shane Mimna pointed for the Gaels with Gary McKenna replying for the Harps.

But a two-pointer from Ultan Kelm put the Gaels into a 1-16 to 0-10 lead and it took two great saves from Harps keeper Jack Kelly to deny Dan McCann two certain goals.

The Harps got a soft goal when a mix up in the Belleek defence allowed the ball to cross their line as they led by 1-17 to 1-10.

The Harps missed a few easy chances to narrow the gap as Jack McCann, Ultan Kelm and Tommy McCaffrey closed out the scoring with McKenna replying for the Harps.
