Last season, the Georgia Bulldogs and the Ole Miss Rebels faced off not once but twice. The Bulldogs won the regular season contest and Ole Miss won the matchup during the College Football Playoff. It's clear that Georgia fans have a bad taste in their mouths when it comes to the Rebels. You can almost guarantee that Kirby Smart has used bulletin board material from the playoff loss to the Rebels heading into this weekend's game.
The Bulldogs come into this match with a 7-1 record while Ole Miss holds a 6-2 record and has won 16 straight home games. Both teams are playing at a high level and it's perfect timing for a big game in Oxford. The elite Georgia defense versus the high powered offense from Ole Miss led by quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has brought a lot of buzz this week's contest.
The big question for the Bulldogs will be, can Georgia's offense pick up, maintain drives and put points on the board against Ole Miss? As mentioned, the Georgia defense is playing at an extremely high level and the offense was solid against Florida but may need to turn it up a notch against a team like Ole Miss.
The Georgia Bulldogs have been nothing short of spectacular when it comes to running the ball on defenses. The Bulldogs will establish early in the trenches that Ole Miss will not be able to handle them for all four quarters which will eventually wear down the Ole Miss defense. The Georgia run game tends to get stronger as the game goes along and it will be very difficult for the Rebels to contain that at a consistent level throughout four quarters.
Georgia is third in the SEC in rushing and averages over 200 rushing yards per game. The Bulldogs will take advantage of an Ole Miss defense that allows 148.9 rushing yards per game (No. 13 in the SEC).
Led by linebacker, Chris Cole, the Bulldogs defense will make enough big plays to slow down the Houdini play of Trinidad Chambliss. Chambliss will make big plays but if the Bulldogs can limit those plays, they have a strong chance to slow down the Ole Miss offense and force a couple of mistakes to come out of this contest with a big road win.
Georgia has been excellent all season when it comes to putting pressure on the quarterback. They will certainly need to contain the quarterback run as much as possible because Chambliss can hurt any defense with his legs and the Bulldogs struggled to slow down Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown a few weeks back. Last week, the Georgia defense came out and made a major statement against the Florida Gators, you can expect the Bulldogs to continue that defensive dominance.
Defense travels and Georgia leads the SEC in scoring defense. The Bulldogs will get the job done on the road.
Kickoff will take place Saturday, November 7. at 7:30 p.m. ET.
