Michael Penix Jr. earns first-career Player of the Week Award

The NFC has recognized their Players of the Week for Week 7, and leading the pack was Falcons starting quarterback Michael Penix Jr., who earned his first-ever NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award for his exceptional effort in leading the Falcons to a 29-20 upset win over the 49ers.

Penix went 25-of-34 for 213 yards and three touchdowns, with no interceptions, in Atlanta’s win over San Francisco. With those numbers, Penix was the only signal caller in the NFC to throw at least three touchdown passes and no interceptions while finishing with over 70% completion this past week.

Vikings LB Blake Cashman, Lions EDGE D.J. Wonnum also earn NFC Player of the Week honors

On the defensive side of the ball, Minnesota Vikings linebacker Blake Cashman was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after posting 12 tackles, four passes defensed, and two sacks in their win against the Indianapolis Colts. It's the second-ever Defensive Player of the Week Award for Cashman, who is the first NFL player since 2000 to record at least 12 tackles, four passes defensed, and two sacks in a single game.

Lions EDGE D.J. Wonnum earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors after blocking a go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter of the team's 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers. Wonnum's blocked field goal set up the ensuing drive, which ended with the Lions securing a game-winning 22-yard field goal. It is Wonnum's first-ever Player of the Week Award.
