Matthias Jaissle acknowledged his Newcastle United side "need to improve really fast" after losing to Everton on Monday.
Thierno Barry scored the only goal as the Toffees won 1-0 at St. James' Park, with Jacob Ramsey also sent off in second-half stoppage time in the Premier League defeat.
The loss also comes after Everton knocked the Magpies out of the EFL Cup last week; Everton have won all three meetings with Newcastle in 2026 in all competitions, as many wins as in their previous 12 encounters (D3 L6).
No Premier League side has lost more home games in 2026 than Newcastle (seven), while they have now lost 16 of their last 18 league games when conceding first (W1 D1).
Newcastle have also failed to keep a clean sheet in each of their last 14 home league games, the longest such run in their league history.
Jaissle admitted things must change on the pitch, with Newcastle's first shot on target not coming until the 85th minute from substitute Yoane Wissa, who also registered their only other attempt on goal.
"The performance today, you didn't see our playing style and that can't happen," Jaissle told BBC Sport.
"We need to improve really fast. We have to encourage them that they are able to do it, that they have the potential to play in that way.
"It's a difficult period. We also know you can only overcome that as a unit."

And in another interview with Sky Sports, Jaissle added: "Unfortunately, we couldn't deliver actually over the whole 90 minutes it was not our game and our style of playing.
"That is something we are very frustrated and disappointed about. If you cannot deliver when it counts then you don't deserve to win.
"We were not brave enough in possession, too many long balls.
"We can work hard, we worked hard and it looked good but unfortunately we couldn't deliver. We analyse tomorrow in detail and try and make things better against Fulham."
