PSG roared to a 6-0 win over Villarreal on Tuesday night, an easy win and a fun night for everyone involved with the Parisians.
But there was one moment in particular which really stood out – a first senior goal (in his first senior start) for David Boly, the 17 year old academy right back who came on to replace Achraf Hakimi.
He surged down the right and – despite it being a much better idea to cross – decided to shoot from a tight angle. Those are the kind of decisions you can make at 5-0 up. The ball flew in, and the team gathered around him to celebrate.
“Scoring is incredible. But making my Champions League debut, in a match like that, was an incredible feeling,” the youngster said.
“I thank everyone, starting with the coach who trusted me, and all the staff who have helped me from the beginning, since I joined the first team last year. I’m so happy!”
Lots of his youth team colleagues were in the stadium watching, and they went appropriately crazy when the goal went in.
Ibrahim Maza is a name we’re hearing linked with PSG more and more often at the moment, and this week he spoke out about the links.
PSG blew Villarreal away with an absolute exhibition performance on Tuesday night.
Luis Enrique insisted he wouldn’t let his team take it easy in yesterday’s game – he certainly got the performance he was looking for.
