As far as Josh Hokit is concerned, he's made more of an impact in just four UFC fights than Alexander Volkov has in his 10 years with the promotion.
Volkov took umbrage with Hokit (10-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) getting the title shot against heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane (14-2 MMA, 11-2 UFC) in the UFC 334 main event Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York (Paramount+).
Volkov (41-11 MMA, 15-5 UFC) said Hokit would be the "easiest title fight ever" for him. The outspoken Hokit mocked Volkov for trying to get Dana White's attention during the UFC 333 pre-fight press conference and is convinced that the UFC CEO didn't recognize him.
"I just need you to somehow pay attention to me because you've got people complaining that have been in the business," Hokit told Jorge Masvidal of Volkov. "They've got 20 fights, and they're asking Dana White, 'What I got to do for a title shot?' And then Dana White doesn't even know who you are. You've got 20 fights in the f*cking UFC.
"But let's look at the numbers. You've got 20 fights, and you've got three bonuses. I have four bonuses in four fights. I'm going to give you, whether it's good, whether it's bad, I'm going to give them something to judge. But at the end of the day, I'm here to piss people off No. 1, and I think I'm the sh*t, No. 2. And I can fight, No. 3. I like that."
Volkov defeated Rizvan Kuniev at UFC 333 to extend his winning streak to three. The 38-year-old has won seven of his past eight fights but could be leapfrogged for a title opportunity by the winner of Sergei Pavlovich and Alex Pereira, which co-headlines UFC 335 on Dec. 12 in Las Vegas.
