Ariel Helwani recently revealed new details regarding Ian Machado Garry.
This past weekend, Mike Malott knocked out Joaquin Buckley to secure another big win in front of his home fans in Canada.
Reflecting on Saturday’s results has led to conversations about what could be next for the welterweight division’s top contenders.
Following Machado Garry’s loss to Islam Makhachev in August, we might not be waiting long to find out the Irishman’s next steps.
After knocking out Joaquin Buckley at UFC Edmonton to score his fifth straight knockout, is Mike Malott a serious contender at 170lb?
Dana White has had a lot to say about Ian Machado Garry and the loss that he suffered when challenging for the welterweight title several months ago.
The Irishman seemingly isn’t going to wait long before trying to answer some of these criticisms and put his name back in the mix at 170 pounds.
When discussing the welterweight division, Ariel Helwani provided a brief update on what’s next for Machado Garry.
He ruled out the chances of Mike Malott being next for ‘The Future’, claiming that the recent title challenger will compete again this year.
According to Helwani, fans should probably expect an announcement soon, with the veteran reporter saying on his show that Machado Garry will be back “in about a month.”
The Irishman suffered just his second loss at UFC 330, who should he fight next to get back on track?
There has been talk in recent weeks about Ian Machado Garry fighting Michael Morales, though the Ecuadorian has mentioned making his return in January.
With the Octagon returning to Canada at the start of next year, Ariel Helwani pitched when speaking to Mike Malott on his show that he should be fighting Morales next instead.
Talk of the long-awaited return of Shavkat Rakhmonov has also been involved in this conversation.
Helwani told Malott that while Rakhmonov coming back to face Morales was the target, he’s doubtful that it will come together for January.
“He’s [Morales] looking for an opponent, it’s probably not gonna be Shavkat. That’s who they wanted, he’s probably not going to be ready,” Helwani said.
