West Ham United loanee Jean-Clair Todibo (26) is struggling to adapt at RC Lens, as per a report from L’Équipe. Reports that Les Sang et Or are looking to cut the France international’s loan at the Stade Bollaert short are, however, wide of the mark, Foot Mercato understands.
Todibo joined Lens late in the summer transfer window. The move came following West Ham’s relegation to the EFL Championship. It left WHU in a position where they wanted to offload the defender, although his loan to Lens does not include a buy option.
His lack of physical preparedness was evident during his debut against AS Monaco. He was culpable for one of the Principality club’s goals and was promptly hooked. However, the problem may be bigger, as per a source familiar with the club, who spoke to L’Équipe. “It isn’t just physical. I ask myself about his compatibility with the tactics, given that he has been playing for more than a month,” they said.
It has been denied, however, that Todibo has struggled to settle in at the club more broadly. On Friday, he received the public support of club captain Florian Sotoca. “I have only good things to say about JC […] he will surprise a few,” he said in his pre-match press conference.
