The Tamil Nadu cricket board has announced its full squad for the upcoming season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2026-27 (SMAT 2026-27). For the series, the state cricket board has named a 16-member squad with Sai Kishore as their captain.

On Sunday, on the first day of November, Tamil Nadu revealed its squad for the limited-over domestic tournament. With the team they have named, they could easily be one of the favorites to win the series. The series will run from November 14 to December 6, 2026. The tournament will be a multi-stage T20 tournament.

In the previous season, Jharkhand became the winner of the tournament under the leadership of Ishan Kishan. They defeated Haryana in the match by 69 runs. In the last season too, Tamil Nadu was recognised as one of the leading forces to claim the title, but they failed to move into the final lap of the competition.

This season, they will try harder to gain the most from the tournament. The current form of Sai Kishore will bolster the chances of the team to proceed to the higher stage of the tournament. The squad formed by the Tamil Nadu cricket governing body does not lack firepower in their batting in the presence of Tushar Raheja, Natayan Jagadeesan, Sachin Baby, Andre Siddharth, Shahrukh Khan and many others.

Why is the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy important for the players?

The upcoming campaign of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will also be a stage for some of the cricketers who will need to prove themselves to stay relevant in the Indian Premier League. Ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League, players like Shahrukh Khan and T Natarajan, whose places in the franchises are reportedly at risk.

Players like Andre Siddarth and Narayan Jagadeesan, who are considered some of the most talented cricketers in domestic cricket, will have to do justice to their talents by demonstrating some significant knocks.

Eyes will be on Varun Chakaravarthy as well. The elite Indian spinner's form has been under the scanner since the 2026 T20 World Cup. Varun's past few months have been filled with multiple hurdles due to his form and injury issues.
