Max Verstappen refused to give his view on Christian Horner's autobiography Drive. Asked about his former team principal's book in Austin, the Red Bull driver said he had not read it and saw no reason to go back over the past.
Speaking during Thursday's media day at the Circuit of the Americas ahead of the US GP, the four-time world champion showed no interest in correcting or confirming anything in the book, including a suggestion that long-time ally Helmut Marko was initially against Verstappen's 2016 promotion from Toro Rosso to Red Bull.
Asked whether he or his father, Jos, had either read Horner's autobiography, or heard any of his former boss' comments during his promotion of the book, Verstappen initially dodged around the question, countering over why his mother and sister were not included.
"Why me and my dad? Not my mum or my sister?" Verstappen joked, before it was pointed out to him that he and his father were more heavily mentioned in the book."Because we've worked together for a very long time, right?" the Dutchman quipped.

When he did address the question, Verstappen admitted he does not read books, and that he sees no need to scrutinise every detail in Horner's autobiography. "Well, I haven't read the book. I don't read books, to be honest, myself," he explained.
"But also, for me, there is also no need for me to sit here and say, 'Well, this is correct; that's not correct; I think this I've seen differently'.
"Those things have all happened in the past. We've had a great time all together, right? I mean, our relationship has lasted for such a long time together working here. But for me, what is now very important is what is happening right now, here."
As mentioned, Verstappen is only focused on the here and now, with the matter of securing a third straight victory in Austin at the forefront of his mind.
Following an impressive Red Bull charge since F1's return from the summer break, Verstappen is only eight points from Lewis Hamilton's third place in the Drivers' standings, with Red Bull seven points off McLaren's P3 in the Constructors'.
"I'm focusing on this weekend. I'm focusing on next year. I'm having a good time within the team," Verstappen said, having achieved two consecutive wins from Pole in Malaysia and Singapore.
"Over time, of course, yeah, people have changed; they have come and gone. But for me, there is no need to try and explain everything here again, from my side, from what I know has happened in the past or not. I'm just looking into the future and just enjoying my time racing."
