The Green Bay Packers are off Sunday after getting a 27-19 win over the Carolina Panthers on Thursday. Coach Matt LaFleur’s team has dealt with several hardships. That includes injuries and absences of some of his best players, such as multiple offensive linemen, Josh Jacobs, and even Micah Parsons. While the Packers have done well to climb to a 5-3 record, they’re still in fourth place in the NFC North, and now it looks like they could face even more challenges in the second half of the season too.
The Packers are sporting the NFL’s worst rushing offense, with the fewest yards and the worst yards-per-carry average in the league at 2.9 YPC. Even though Jacobs returned from being on the commissioner’s exempt list after missing the first six games, he hasn’t been effective.
The First-Team All-Pro rusher already ranks second on the team in carries behind Marshawn Lloyd (57) with 32. Yet, Jacobs has only rushed for 75 yards and a touchdown, averaging a career-low 2.3 YPC in the process. That’s worse than Lloyd, who’s averaging a paltry 2.6 YPA.
Jacobs was essentially suspended for the first six games of the season after being arrested on domestic battery-related charges. But his time in the penalty box may not be done.
Recently, a public records request revealed three further accusations of domestic violence against Jacobs. The league has since responded by indicating they’re looking into the latest allegations surrounding the Packers running back.
Now, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Jacobs could face a suspension from the league due to the new information that’s been discovered.
“Josh Jacobs has been off the commissioner’s exempt list, has been playing for the Green Bay Packers, but his legal situation is not over. Thanks to a public records request late on Friday. Three additional allegations of abuse by women was revealed and the NFL has put out a statement now saying they’re going to continue to look into this. Remember, his situation, despite him being on the field, was not closed, and the big question here along with the veracity of these claims, involves, was Jacobs up front with the league? Their review continues. He’s going to continue to play but it is possible that he gets a suspension at the end of this.”

While Jacobs has struggled since returning, he’s certainly still the team’s best running back on the roster. Yet, with the 28-year-old three-time Pro Bowler’s immediate future in question, it’s also no surprise that the Packers are being linked to trade discussions involving First-Team All-Pro Jonathan Taylor.
Either way, the Packers’ rushing attack hasn’t been effective, and they need to figure something else out. Perhaps that means finding more ways to upgrade the offensive line. Or maybe it means making a splash trade for someone like Taylor.
