If help is coming to the New England Patriots, it won't be coming in the form of veteran offensive lineman Quenton Nelson.
The six-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowl guard is being traded to the Seattle Seahawks, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. Not long after the report, the Seahawks confirmed on social media that an agreement is in place with the Indianapolis Colts, involving a 2027 third-round draft pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick.
Given the bevy of offensive line injuries for the Patriots, some wondered if the team would consider taking a massive swing to acquire one of the best interior offensive linemen in the NFL. They are down both of their starting guards with Alijah Vera-Tucker and Mike Onwenu on injured reserve. Both of their top backups, Ben Brown and Greg Van Roten, have also been out with injuries.
So it would have been a huge lift for the offense to acquire an elite talent like Nelson this late in the season.
With that said, the team is confident that Vera-Tucker's injury isn't season-ending, and there's a chance that both Brown and Van Roten could return this week. Walter Rouse and Matt Pryor haven't exactly been disasters, either, while serving as replacement starters.
It's fun to wonder what could have been for the Patriots, but they are still in a good place if they can finally get their roster healthy.
