Former Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has been told that he should 'jump at the chance' to take charge of Manchester United. Howe is one of the names linked with a possible move to Old Trafford amid growing pressure on head coach Michael Carrick.
There were questions asked over the future of the Man United boss amid a poor start to the season. The team sit in 20th place in the Premier League table, having picked up just seven points from 21 on offer so far this campaign.
The Red Devils are winless in their last seven games in all competitions. They endured a dismal trip to Como in the Champions League, falling to a 4-1 defeat.
Despite this, Carrick is still expected to oversee Sunday's home fixture against Bournemouth. United's hierarchy wish to afford the former Middlesbrough manager time to reverse the situation.
However, should Carrick be dismissed, Howe is amongst the frontrunners to take over. The 48 year old is available following his departure from St James' Park in the summer and has long been linked with a switch to United.
During his time at Newcastle, Howe led the club to the Champions League as well as lifting the Carabao Cup.
Now, former Bournemouth man Marc Pugh, who worked under Howe at the club, has shared his assessment of a potential move to Old Trafford for the ex-Newcastle head coach. Speaking on talkSPORT regarding the speculation, Pugh said: "If I were Eddie, I'd jump at the chance, but to be honest, I think United need someone like Eddie...
"I think jobs like that don't come around often, and it's one of the best clubs in the world; you've got to jump at the chance, in my eyes."

Meanwhile, Dwight Yorke believes Howe stands out amongst the leading contenders to succeed Carrick.
He told the Keys and Gray Unleashed podcast: "The Eddie Howe scenario will raise a few eyebrows, and yes, a man with a little bit more experience who has obviously done what he's done at Bournemouth and at Newcastle.
"Howe would be one of those guys who stand out out there at the moment. He's not in a job, looking for a job. There are no top managerial candidates out there who can come in and really excite the people and the fans at Manchester United."
