Leeds United should consider repeating their Dominic Calvert-Lewin trick by offering Thierno Barry the chance to swap Everton for Elland Road.
Daniel Farke will be delighted with how his side have started the season, currently seventh place and looking defensively solid, losing only once this season. After securing survival relatively comfortable last season, Leeds are looking to kick on this season, and they are going the right way about it.
But Farke may not be pleased with all aspects of his team, and according to a report from Football Insider, Leeds may be willing to sell striker Lukas Nmecha in the January window, as long as they can source a replacement. Nmecha has struggled for game time due to Calvert-Lewin's form, but more importantly, he is out of contract net summer, and that means it would be wise for Leeds to cash in while they can.
The 27-year-old frontman has made six league appearances for Leeds this season, but he is yet to start, and without a goal so far, he is seen as replaceable due to his contract situation.
But replacing him will be key to make sure Farke has a back-up striker to lean upon, both for relief and in case Calvert-Lewin has an injury issue between now and the end of the season.
Who that replacement striker would be is another question, but how about Everton frontman Barry?
Interestingly, both Leeds and Everton have been linked with Rennes striker Esteban Lepaul, and the Toffees are very much in the market for a new striker, or maybe even two. Barry has done well, but he lacks support, and he isn't the most clinical of frontmen, scoring eight last term, which was his first in the Premier League, although he already has three in seven this season.
Everton signed Barry for £27million, and it's unclear whether they would be willing to sell the former Villarreal star, especially in January, but Leeds would be wise to explore the option. Barry is similar to Calvert-Lewin in some ways, standing at 6ft5" and able to win headers and bring the ball down, but he has a little extra pace and is able to stretch the back-line.
"I'm pleased about the goals he is scoring. But I think someone told me he has missed the most big chances in the Premier League(...)As a manager you just want to see him score. We won't be a team that creates a lot of chances." David Moyes on Thierno Barry.
The 24-year-old is an agile and hungry striker, and while he is still improving, needing to be a little more clinical in front of goal, it's clear he has potential. Despite that, he has come in for some criticism of late, and if that continues, Leeds should move to take advantage in January, even if it takes a big fee. Everton are not likely to want to sell, but let's not forget they are now a club for sale, and a profit on Barry might be considered. The Whites have had success shopping on Merseyside with Calvert-Lewin, and Barry could be the next to take a move to Elland Road in his stride.
