Augustus Kargbo's 430-day Blackburn Rovers wait to continue

The winger was brought on at half-time in South Wales and was arguably Rovers' best performer with several darting runs.

After more than a year without a competitive start due to injury, some supporters may have wondered whether he's ready to go from the off against Stoke City. The last time that happened was August 30, 2025, some 430 days ago.

Tony Mowbray is likely to keep him in reserve on the bench for now, though, highlighting he is close but not yet ready to start.

"I think you can watch him and he does some wonderful things," Mowbray said.

"It's a very obvious difference to some of our other players. He is almost ready for full selection, I think.

"You watch him travel 60 yards up the pitch really fast but then I'm watching five minutes later, he's still walking back and that's telling me he hasn't got the confidence really yet to do the job from the start.

"He's exciting and the only spells we had at Swansea were when he attacked the back line. He's a good option but in the short term he will start from the bench, I would suggest.

"The rest of the staff tell me his personality is that he's going to be knocking on your door soon, saying, 'Why am I not starting, what's going on?'

"That's alright, I don't mind that from footballers telling me that but they've got to go and prove it.

"If I give you the start, you better go and do it from the start. He's a good option and if he can bring what he did against Swansea, then that will be very positive for us."

Rovers will have Scott Wharton and Sam Morsy back in their squad, whilst Harry Pickering has recovered from illness.

He is likely to start with Yuri Ribeiro not in contention to begin the match as he comes back from injury.

Ryoya Morishita is the only other non long-term absentee and won't be back until after the international beak.
