The Pittsburgh Steelers have tipped their hand in regard to when their newest wide receiver could make his 2026 debut with the Steel City brand of football.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy hinted at whether or not Valdes-Scantling could suit up in Week 7's Paris game against the New Orleans Saints.
"We’ll see if MVS plays against the Saints," McCarthy said. “We'll see. We had a very good practice today, and we've got one more full practice before we leave tomorrow. We'll see how things go and what happens from there.”
Valdes-Scantling began his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers (2018-2021) before also having short stints with the Kansas City Chiefs (2022-2023), Buffalo Bills (2024), New Orleans Saints (2024), San Francisco 49ers (2025), Steelers (2025), and Los Angeles Chargers (2026). The Chargers released Valdes-Scantling last week, but it didn't take long for the veteran to reunite with his former Green Bay Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers.
Given that wide receivers Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson are on injured reserve, Pittsburgh could sorely use Valdes-Scantling in the Week 7 game in Paris. It would be a tall ask for any player who joined a team less than a week ago, but Valdes-Scantling has experience in McCarthy's offensive system and chemistry with Rodgers.
