Ferrari turn attention away from F1 to seek new challenge as they aim to set world record in another sport

Ferrari have not won a constructor’s championship since 2008, and their last world champion driver came in 2007, when Kimi Räikkönen claimed the title.

It has been a difficult two decades for the historic Formula 1 team, as they fight hard to return to the top of the sport by claiming both titles; however, that is unlikely to happen this year.

Ferrari are currently 134 points behind Mercedes in the constructors’ championship, while Lewis Hamilton is 111 points behind the driver championship leader, Kimi Antonelli, with only six Grand Prix remaining.

Now they appear to have turned their attention to a new sport in order to set a world record as Ferrari continues to struggle in F1.

Ferrari aiming to set world record in a sport that is not F1

The Prancing Horse are the most successful constructor in Formula 1, but they have been struggling for the past two decades to add to their 16 successes.

Ferrari have not been able to claim a title since 2008, and it is not for a lack of trying, as they have usually occupied second or third in the constructors’ championship since this success.

They are unlikely to add to this historic success this season and so may turn their attention to giving Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton a car for next season to give them a chance in 2027.

While this will be the focus for Scuderia Ferrari, it seems that the famous Italian manufacturer has turned its attention away from cars and to the sea.

Now, according to Marca, Ferrari have produced an innovative new sailboat with its black and yellow hull reminiscent of a UFO.

The sheer size of the sailboat is incredible to behold, as its 100-foot length (30.48 meters) is equivalent to a ten-story building lying on its side in the water. Its 40-meter height, once the mast and sails are attached, will be like a football field standing upright.

Its size is not the only impressive quality, as Ferrari have used its knowledge of cars, regarding aerodynamics, materials, computer simulation, and dynamic control electronics, to allow it to make a sailboat that could break a world record.

Now, according to 24 Sports, Ferrari are aiming to break the around-the-world record in a sailboat.

Ferrari, are aiming to achieve this in under 40 days. The fastest journey around the world in a sailboat took 40 days, 10 hours, 45 minutes and 50 seconds. This was achieved by Sodebo Ultim 3 as they looked to win the Jules Verne Trophy.

Ferrari’s sporting history

This will be the Prancing Horses’ first dipping of their feet in the sport of sailing; however, it is not the first time that they have done other sports outside F1.

Ferrari founded their racing team in 1929, and just three years later they would also operate a motorcycle racing division.

Famously, the Italian racing team went head-to-head with Ford at Le Mans throughout the 1970s as they aimed to demonstrate their racing dominance.

They would also compete during the 1970s and 1980s in rally racing as their cars had successfully been modified to race in this type of motorsport and so they believed they could make a successful car.

Now they are set to turn their hand at sailing.
