Wallabies squad: Les Kiss gets playmaker boost as son of World Cup winner earns maiden call-up

Les Kiss has included two uncapped players in his Wallabies squad for the northern hemisphere leg of the Nations Championship.

Former Australia Under 20s captain Teddy Wilson is joined by fellow NSW junior Tom Lambert in the 33-man squad, which will assemble in Sydney on Wednesday.

Wilson is the son of former Wallaby David Wilson who played 79 Test matches in the Wallaby golden era and featured in two Rugby World Cups, including the 1999 side that lifted the Webb Ellis Cup in Cardiff.

Loosehead prop Lambert, meanwhile, has been rewarded for his strong performances for the NSW Waratahs in this year’s Super Rugby Pacific competition and more recently the Super Rugby AUS tournament.

Carter Gordon, Tom Hooper and Taniela Tupou return

Wallabies forwards Taniela Tupou and Tom Hooper have been recalled to the squad as the next four Test matches all fall inside the World Rugby’s Regulation Nine window.

Kiss has also been bolstered by the return of Hunter Paisami, who has served his suspension for a high tackle on Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu in the win over South Africa in Perth.

Furthermore, fly-half Carter Gordon and lock Miles Amatosero have been included in the squad. Gordon continues his recovery from a fractured fibula sustained in Argentina, while Amatosero has returned from injury and will play for Australia A this weekend.

Rugby Australia confirmed that additional players could be added to the touring party following Australia A’s match against the USA this weekend.

“There’s a real buzz among the squad as we prepare for what will be four incredibly demanding matches against high-quality opposition as part of the November Nations Championship Tests,” head coach Kiss said.

“As coaches, we’ve made some tough selection calls to keep building depth across the board and we know a tour like this will challenge the whole squad on many levels.

“This Tour gives us another valuable opportunity to test new combinations, strengthen our existing connections and push our game forward in all areas.”
