The Atlanta Falcons will see a few familiar faces when they host the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7, including former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, who currently serves as the 49ers defensive coordinator. Atlanta will also have to deal with long-time Falcons nemesis Mike Evans.
The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver has been torching Atlanta defenses for over a decade. In 21 career games against the Falcons, Evans has racked up 108 catches for 1,652 yards and 13 touchdowns.
While many attempted to write off the 33-year-old wideout, Evans is still producing like he's 23. Thus far with the 49ers, Evans has recorded 27 catches for 420 receiving yards (15.6 yards per reception) and three touchdowns.
Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich had high praise for Evans, calling the 13-year NFL veteran "a living, walking Hall of Famer" during his Thursday press conference, per The Athletic's Josh Kendall.
"I don't think there's any doubt about that," Ulbrich said of Evans' Hall of Fame chances. "He plays with everything so we are assuming he is going to play."
Ulbrich was referring to Evans' injury status going NFL Week 7. The veteran did not practice on Wednesday due to ribs and Achilles injuries. It's true that the 6-foot-5 wideout has managed to stay on the field for much of his career, and Atlanta is smart to assume Evans will be out there on Sunday.
The Falcons No. 1 wide receiver Drake London is having another strong season as well. London ranks fourth in the NFL with 550 receiving yards - and that's with two games of Cooper Rush at quarterback.
We'll have to wait and see which wide receiver reigns supreme in NFL Week 7. Sunday's game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
