Boxing fans are furious with officials after a fighter was allowed to continue with a horrific hematoma that is being described as the 'worst ever seen'.
A WBC world light-heavyweight title showdown between Joshua Buatsi and Willy Hutchinson headlined a Queensberry Promotions card in Manchester on Saturday.
Jack Rafferty vs Hovhannes Martirosyan and Bradley Rea vs Ezra Taylor also featured on the undercard, along with a British featherweight title bout between Gully Powar and Zak Miller.
Powar beat Miller to win the vacant British featherweight title, but the fight was overshadowed following a shocking injury.
Powar and Miller fought at a tremendous pace as they battled for the prestigious British title.
During the contest, Powar clashed heads with Miller, who quickly suffered extreme swelling in his head, causing a gruesome hematoma.
Referee Mark Lyson intervened, so Miller could be checked out by the ringside physician. But the 29-year-old was inexplicably allowed to continue on for two more rounds.
It was eventually called off in the 10th round after another halt in action, with the fight going to the judges' scorecards, with Powar getting the nod, winning the British featherweight title in the process.
Speaking after the fight, DAZN presenters Ade Oladipo and Carl Frampton couldn't help but discuss Miller's nasty-looking hematoma.
Oladipo said: "I’ve seen some hematomas in the sport, but that is one of the worst I’ve ever seen."
Frampton added: "That is the worst I’ve ever seen."
Lyson and the doctor's decision to allow Powar vs Miller to continue didn't go down well among boxing fans on social media.
They called out Lyson and the doctor, who looked at Miller's hematoma on two occasions before instructing the referee to wave off the contest.
One X user wrote: "Where the f*** was the duty of care for Zak Miller that is an absolutely horrendous look for the sport. Hope Zak Miller is ok. Doctor let that go on for another two rounds."
A second said: "Should have stopped it at the first doctor’s assessment, those are horrific looking injuries - hope he is ok!"
A third added: "Awful swelling, disgustingly cowardly doctor letting that fight continue."
A fourth bemoaned: "Crazy for the corner and doctor not to stop it earlier. Hopefully it isn't anything more serious."
Another commented: "That’s one of the worst hematomas I’ve ever seen. Maybe the worst."
