Jadon Sancho open to discussing unexpected £10,000-a-week move after formal contract offer made
Jadon Sancho open to discussing unexpected £10,000-a-week move after formal contract offer made

Former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has been offered a route back into football by Getafe, with the La Liga side proposing a £10,000-a-week deal until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Sancho, who earned a reported £250,000-a-week during his spell at Old Trafford, has been a free agent since he was released at the end of his five-year contract with United in June.

While training at Greater Manchester non-league club Flixton FC in an attempt to keep up his fitness, the 26-year-old has been linked with numerous clubs, including former side Borussia Dortmund.

More recently, he has been offered a contract at cash-strapped Getafe, who are willing to pay Sancho €400,000 (£335,000) in wages from now until June, according to The Telegraph.

The report claims Sancho has not ruled out joining the club. He is 'attracted' by the idea of playing in La Liga, with the potential move being deemed a good way of kickstarting his career.

It is said he wants to meet head coach Jose Bordalas before making his final decision.

Getafe president Angel Torres recently gave an insight into the club's pursuit of Sancho, telling Spanish radio: "I've been working on this for four months. He's now a free agent. We've made him a final offer.

"He's previously played for Manchester [United] and Aston Villa, so it's not as if he's coming from anywhere. I know he's got offers from Qatar and from a number of other players."

Torres added: "We need to be patient, not put pressure on him, and let him decide for himself."

Erik ten Hag details 'very weird' Jadon Sancho request that played role in his Man Utd exit

Sancho was exiled from the United first team by Erik ten Hag after a public row over his training performance.

He spent the second half of the 2023-24 season on loan at Borussia Dortmund before returning to United, at which point Ten Hag said the pair had 'drawn the line' under their feud after a clear-the-air meeting.

However, Sancho was sent out on loan to Chelsea on the following transfer deadline day and Ten Hag was later sacked in October 2024.

Speaking in an interview with The Athletic, Ten Hag revealed that the big-money arrival of Antony from Ajax was prompted by a request from Sancho that surprised him.

He explained that Sancho came to him and said he'd be more comfortable playing on the left flank.

"There came up a problem because Sancho didn't want to play on the right side; he said that," Ten Hag revealed. "Which was very weird; he played often on the right. He said he felt more comfortable on the left. So we had an issue, and we were late.

"I see on performances and profiles what is needed for the game [when signing players]. Not on emotion, if I like a player or dislike a player, or if I trained him before, or if I bought him or the club bought him, no. I can be acting very professional, I would say."
