Traditional romps home in poll.
Yesterday, in the following article – fixtures-chigozie-baptiste – I covered the fact that three more of our EFL League One games had seen their kick-off times moved from 1500 hours to 1230 hours, purely to accommodate the armchair fans Sky Sports continuously hankers after.
Galvanised into action, I decided to canvas our readership, via a poll, to see whether you preferred the 1230 kick-off time or the more traditional 1500 hours start.
Now I wasn’t sure which way this one would go, but I hoped the traditionalists among you would vote for the latter suggestion.
As it turned out, one option had the clear majority.
Of those that chose to vote a cool 80% went for the 1500 hours Saturday option with only 20% going for the 1230 hours option.
The result shows, in my opinion, tradition rules the roost, a 1500 hours kick-off is the staple diet of those who have been watching the Hatters for more years than they can care to recall.
Is there anything better than making your way down to the public house, meeting your mates, enjoying a few pints before making your way to the ground, usually via the West Side centre, or hat remains of it these days.
However, gone are the days when efforts were made to get to the ground for around 1400 hours, securing your place on the terrace and helping to get the atmosphere going, times have changed.
Nowadays, the support leaves it a lot closer to the kick-off before entering the ground, especially with an allocated seat number.
But returning to the few, 20%, who went for the 1230 option, the only benefit I can see is that you, if you don’t live too far away, you can make it home for the 1500-hour kick-offs.
Although with Sky Sports dictating kick-off times, very rarely is there more than for Premier League games taking place, with their kick-offs scattered over the whole weekend.
But with one kick-off option, seemingly cleared up, let’s explore another one.
What is your preference, Saturday fixtures or midweek fixtures?
