Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is heading to the injured reserve after suffering a thumb injury during Sunday's Week 8 loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Jackson sustained this injury on his first play back after missing each of the Ravens' previous three games with an ankle injury.
As Jackson prepares to undergo potentially season-ending surgery to repair his right throwing thumb, some speculation is beginning to swirl regarding his future with the Baltimore franchise.
Jackson failed to reach an extension agreement with the Ravens this past offseason, with the team opting to restructure his contract instead. As a result of this move, his cap hit is set to be north of $84 million next season.
When speaking to reporters on Tuesday, wide receiver Zay Flowers was asked if he expects Jackson to be the Ravens' quarterback in 2027.
"I would like to, but that's not really nothing I can comment on. That's nothing I can really control in my situation," Flowers replied.
Flowers signed a four-year, $140 million contract extension with the Ravens this past summer. He's been impressive for Baltimore so far this season, reeling in 40 catches for 608 yards and three touchdowns.
However, Flowers was held without a single catch in Sunday's loss to the Bills as undrafted rookie quarterback Joe Fagnano took over following injuries for both Jackson and backup signal caller Tyler Huntley.
Fagnano will start for the Ravens in Thursday night's primetime matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
