Broncos activate two players to 53-man roster ahead of Cardinals game

The Denver Broncos will receive some much-needed reinforcements ahead of their Week 7 game against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

The Broncos activated both running back Jonah Coleman (ankle) and pass rusher Jonathon Cooper to the 53-man roster on Saturday. Coleman returned from injured reserve and Cooper was activated after being reinstated following his six-game stint on the commissioner's exempt list.

Cooper missed the first six games of the season while on the exempt list following two arrests in June related to alleged incidents involving his former girlfriend. Cooper is facing multiple charges, including a felony assault charge, but the NFL reinstated him last week after his trial was pushed back to March.

On the field, Cooper could provide an immediate boost to Denver's defense, although it remains to be seen if he will be thrown immediately into the deep end, or if he will be eased back into action against the Cardinals. If Denver decides on the latter, they will almost certainly turn to pass rusher Que Robinson, who helped fill in for Cooper during his time away from the team. Robinson has two sacks on the season, along with 23 total tackles (11 solo, 12 assisted, three tackles for loss), one pass deflection and one fumble recovery on the year.

Coleman will look to build on a strong early start in Week 2, where he had 13 total touches for 58 total yards and his first career rushing touchdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Unfortunately, Coleman suffered an ankle injury in the win and was placed on the short-term injured reserve. His activation gives the Broncos a full quiver of three running backs in J.K. Dobbins, RJ Harvey and Coleman after running back Tyler Badie was placed on injured reserve (thumb) on Saturday.

The Broncos will look to have a well of production from Coleman and Cooper during a very winnable stretch of games ahead. Denver will kick off Week 7 against the Cardinals at 2:05 p.m. MT on Sunday.
