Newcastle United player ratings v Crystal Palace: 'Important' 8/10 & 6/10 'passenger' comes alive in 2-0 win

Crystal Palace 0-2 Newcastle United: Here’s how Fabian Schar, Dan Burn, William Osula and co. fared at Selhurst Park on Sunday afternoon.

Newcastle United picked up a much-needed 2-0 win at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon - here are the player ratings from the match.

The Magpies went into the game on the back of successive Premier League defeats while Palace were looking to bounce back from a 5-0 thrashing at rivals Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

Palace drew 2-2 against Besiktas in Turkey on Thursday evening and could have been forgiven for a slightly sluggish start to the match but Newcastle also lacked quality themselves as the sides went in 0-0 at the break.

But within two minutes of the restart, Newcastle broke the deadlock through William Osula’s first goal of the season. Jacob Murphy’s cross from the right was volled in from close range by the Danish forward to make it 1-0.

Joe Willock thought he’d made it 2-0 moments later, but his strike was ruled out for offside following a VAR check.

Shortly after that, Harvey Barnes actually made it 2-0 as he turned in Amar Dedic’s low cross with a smart first-time finish.

And Newcastle were able to hold on for three points and a clean sheet at Selhurst Park to move up to seventh in the Premier League table.

Brought pace and energy from right-back on his return to the starting line-up. Was a bit wasteful in possession when trying to find a teammate with a pass or cross in the first half but got his delivery spot on to set up Harvey Barnes. His fourth assist of the season.

His first Premier League start since January. Up against a physical forward in Jean-Philippe Mateta and conceded an early free-kick against the French forward which led to Palace's first big opportunity of the game. Was later booked for another foul on the Palace striker. His trademark long balls out from the back need recalibrating but got stuck in defensively to keep a clean sheet.
