Luton Town – Played For Both – Doncaster Rovers
Luton Town – Played For Both – Doncaster Rovers

Another home game.

The EFL League One games really are coming thick and fast as the season gathers momentum.

On Tuesday evening, we welcome Doncaster Rovers, to Kenilworth Road, for our third home league game in a matter of just EIGHT days.

The previous two, against Barnsley and Leicester City, resulted in two wins, 6 points from the 6 available, against Doncaster Rovers can we make it a magnificent 9 points out of 9, thereby lifting the Hatters even higher up the table?

As is the norm, I have opted to revamp out ‘They Played for Both’ series.

However, I will admit that this one proved harder than normal with there not, seemingly, being a multitude of players that have worn the shirts of both clubs.

But after studying all the material available, I have come up with the following starting XI (plus substitute).

See what you think!

Goalkeeper – Ben Alnwick

Defender – Wayne Thomas

Defender – Matty Pearson

Defender – Alex Baptiste

Defender – Jack Senior

Midfield – Elliot Lee

Midfield – Michael McIndoe

Midfield – Kazenga Lua-Lua

Forward – Kerry Dixon

Forward – Mike Newell

Forward – James Collins

Substitute – Gary McSheffrey

As can be seen there are some familiar names and some not so familiar names and I am not sure they would be as competitive as some of the ‘Played for Both’ teams I have published this season, so far.

As for the ‘Others’ list, I could only find a trio of players that fit the bill;

  • Devante Cole
  • Jed Steer
  • Paul Cardin

Would you swap any of the trio with anyone who made my team?

Or, as has often been the case, is there anyone I may have missed?

If so, please feel free to enlighten me in the comment facility beneath this article.

However, during my compilation of this side, three interesting points did catch my attention:

1 – Kerry Dixon not only played for both clubs, but he also had a spell in the Doncaster Rovers managerial hot-seat, 1996/1997.

2 – Mike Newell also played for both clubs but also had a spell in the managerial hot-seat at Kenilworth Road, 2003/2007.

3 – Gary Brabin may not have played for Luton Town, but he did manage Luton Town as well as play for Doncaster Rovers, 2011/2012.
