Liverpool see highly-rated Brighton centre-back Luka Vuskovic as a leading transfer target in the summer of 2027, according to a promising new update.
The Reds know that a new central defender is needed in 2027, even if captain Virgil van Dijk ends up signing a contract extension, which he hopefully will.
There is a lack of depth in that position, with Ronald Araujo only on loan from Barcelona and Joe Gomez possible in his last season at Liverpool, and Vuskovic has been linked with a move to Anfield recently.
Now, Caught Offside‘s Mark Brus has said: “I can confirm that the Reds’ interest in the Brighton centre-back is really strong.
[…]
“I’m reliably told by sources in the industry that senior Anfield figures were “surprised” when Tottenham decided to sell Vuskovic to Brighton. Although Spurs have a 20% sell-on clause and can match any future bids for the Croatia international, they do not have a buy-back clause. This has encouraged Liverpool as they scour the market for centre-backs.”
Then, another source in the report adds: “Brighton are realistic and pragmatic about this, they know, because it’s part of their whole strategy, that eventually Vuskovic is going to leave for big money. Liverpool view him as elite, and perfect to slot in to Andoni Iraola’s system.”
Vuskovic is such an exciting young defender, proving to be one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League so far this season, shining in his all-round game for an in-form Brighton side.
The Croatian still has plenty of learning to do, but he is way ahead of many players his age, and Seagulls defensive partner Lewis Dunk has hailed him, saying:
“He’s settling in really well. He’s obviously come in and hit the ground running. But I’m sure he can get better and be a top, top, top defender in the future. He’s played in Germany and I don’t know how many international games [for Croatia], so he’s played at a high level already.”
Granted, as much as £90m may be needed for Liverpool to sign Vuskovic, but if he continues on his current trajectory, he could become one of Europe’s best defenders for many years.
