Martin Ho’s side will certainly want a response after back-to-back defeats, with the Gunners arriving for the first WSL fixture at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season. Spurs return to N17 on Saturday with plenty to prove, and the opposition could hardly be bigger – their fierce rivals. Arsenal visit for a 12.45 pm UK kick-off, and the squad spent Tuesday afternoon on the training pitch, with the club noting that the group was fully focused on the task ahead.
It has been a sharp change in fortunes. September brought ten points from four matches, including a 7-0 rout at Crystal Palace and a 4-0 win over Aston Villa, and Ho picked up the Manager of the Month award for it. Then came defeats to London City Lionesses and Chelsea. At Stamford Bridge, Matilda Vinberg levelled just before the break, but three Chelsea goals in nine second-half minutes helped turn it into a 6-2 loss. Spurs still sit fourth in the table.
Defender Ella Morris has already made her feelings clear. She apologised to the travelling supporters after the Chelsea game and promised that “we’re going to show a reaction and we’re going to come out fighting.” Ho’s side showed in September how dangerous they can be going forward, and they will need that edge again against Arsenal.
Tickets remain on sale for supporters who want to be there, and the club has special activities planned around the match as the WSL makes its first visit to the stadium this season. Fans can also pick their own starting XI through the team selector on the club’s website.
Anyone travelling to N17 will want to plan around the 12.45 pm UK kick-off, because Spurs have the chance to answer back in front of their own supporters.
