Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has picked up a heel problem and will miss the Reds' journey to Fenerbahce in the Champions League on Wednesday, the club have announced. Gravenberch was relegated to the substitutes' bench at the weekend in the defeat against Arsenal, with 19-year-old Trey Nyoni preferred to start instead. He will now stay on Merseyside and receive treatment for the complaint, the seriousness of which remains unclear.
Dominik Szoboszlai has recovered from injury, however. He, Alexis Mac Allister and Nyoni will all feature in Andoni Iraola's squad for the fixture in Istanbul, which represents Liverpool's fourth Champions League outing this season.
Liverpool has won all of their first three European matches this season.
Iraola will provide a fresh update on Liverpool's injuries during a press conference due to start at approximately 3.15pm UK time today (Tuesday).
Szoboszlai appears set to feature in the European encounter after regaining fitness, and the Hungarian told reporters that patience was key during a recent spell on the sidelines.
"It's very hard, you know," he explained. "I'm the type of player, as you might know, that the last three seasons I want to play every 90 minutes.
"But sometimes, your body says 'rest a little bit' and my body told me to 'Stay calm, you've had enough games now'. I missed games against Man City and LASK and then I felt again very good after a couple of days off but it seemed I wasn't ready.
"Sometimes it is my heart and I listen to my heart and not my body. These decisions I made with what happened in the last weeks so today was the plan to come in - I was actually ready from the start but I've played 30 minutes and let's see from now on."
Szoboszlai can operate in all three midfield roles and emphasised that he is happy to play wherever he is needed.
"It depends where he puts me," the 25-year-old continued. "As a six, he might ask me different stuff, and as a 10, he might ask me different stuff as an eight.
"I only know before the game what I'm going to play, we all know only before the game so from there is only one and half hours to discuss with him the stuff he wants to do in the game and how he wants you to play."
Following triumphs over Atletico Madrid, LASK and Villarreal in the Champions League thus far this campaign, Liverpool sit third in the table ahead of matchday four. Sides must secure a top-eight finish to bypass the additional fixtures in the play-off round.
Given the available margin for error - and with clashes against Club Brugge, FC Porto, Inter Milan and Lens yet to come - it could prove sensible to grant several crucial players a breather.
