Leeds United's biggest success is being ignored because of attacking concern

The headline from the last two games is Leeds United have failed to score, with that fact highlighting further the perceived issue with the lack of goals in the team. Just two goals scored in the last five games and one win in nine games in all competitions brings with it another worrying statistic, but rather than be negative, I'd like to point to a fact that is being overlooked.

The attacking issue is currently sucking up all the oxygen in the room, leaving little breathing space to discuss one huge positive that is shaping the season of Daniel Farke's side.

Leeds have become tough to score against and that, in a large part, is led by the dominating performances of Tarik Muharemovic. Such has been the level of performance of the summer signing, we're now seemingly becoming too accustomed to his dominating displays at the back and taking it for granted.

Against Bournemouth in a two goal defeat, little to nothing was made of the fact Muharemovic was immense at the back, recording a match-high 102 touches in the game, completing 70 accurate passes (80.5% accuracy), and winning nine aerial duels. The defender has the most assists for Leeds this season in the league, he's made 69 more passes than his nearest team-mate (Ethan Ampadu) and tops the list of long passes and forward passes (James Trafford aside).

When it comes to defending, which is his bread and butter, he's double the amount of clearances of the next closes to him (Elvedi) with 72 and sits top of the amount of duals won with 56.

Only Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion have conceded fewer goals than Leeds this season, and Muharemovic deserves credit for his role in that.

Yes, the number of goals scored needs to improve, but while Leeds are conceding at the rate they are, they are always going to be in every game and have a chance of picking up one point, if not three. Scoring more will help turn the large number of draws into victories, but that defensive resolve puts the team in the position to have that opportunity in the first place.

Improvements need to be made, Farke needs more from his attacking men and his bench, but let's not forget the good work being done by all the defence and those in front of them who help set that platform, while celebrating the fact Leeds have undoubtedly made one of the best signings of the summer!
