“He Needs Taken Out the Team” – Month-Out Call Over Celtic’s Kasper Hogh

Charlie Mulgrew believes Kasper Hogh needs a month out of Celtic’s starting line-up to rebuild his confidence after another difficult afternoon at Easter Road.

The club’s record signing had opportunities to put Celtic ahead against Hibs but again finished without a goal. So he showed that he can get into the spaces; it’s just his confidence in finishing the chances that is lacking.

His first-half hat-trick at Kilmarnock offered an exciting introduction to Scottish football. Since then, however, the goals have dried up, even if he has contributed assists.

There is plenty more in our latest Celtic news and transfers coverage.

Mulgrew believes persevering with him as a starter could now be doing more harm than good.

Speaking on Go Radio, the former Celtic defender said:

“I would have hooked Kasper Hogh off at 35 minutes.

“He missed two sitters, you could tell his confidence is gone and he ran into the referee to sum it up.

“He came short for a ball and nearly set Hibs on the counter-attack.

“He’s gone. His confidence is gone. I’ve been there as a player so I can completely sympathise with him

“It was once described to me – and it made so much sense – when your confidence is gone a ball coming towards you is like a golf ball fired out a gun, when you are feeling really confident, it is almost like a balloon or beach ball coming really slowly and you can see everything so clearly.

“Confidence is a massive thing in football and Kasper Hogh at this moment in time, nothing has gone right for him.

“I think he needs taken out the team for a month or so, and just brought on for 10-15 minutes here and there and eased back in to get his confidence back up because right now he is in the firing line.

“I looked at him yesterday and knew how he felt. He wants the ground to swallow him up because he feels so low.”

The question is how best to help him reach that point.

Camilo Durán is scoring regularly and offers an obvious option through the middle. Using Høgh from the bench would allow Celtic to retain his penalty-box threat while giving their most productive forward the central role.

One goal could provide a welcome lift. Until it arrives, O’Neill must decide whether another start or a spell away from the spotlight gives Høgh the better chance of recovering his form.
