England will be taking on a fresh-faced Australia attack later this month, with star seamers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood all rested from the forthcoming white-ball series.

Australia have just completed a three-match Test tour of South Africa, losing 2-1 as each game went the distance, and have red-ball assignments against New Zealand and India coming up either side of Christmas.

The pace trio have therefore been stood down and will not feature across the three ODIs and five T20s against Harry Brook’s side. Cummins’ one-day captaincy duties once again defer to his regular stand-in Mitch Marsh.

Test players Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis and Matt Renshaw have all been called up for the 50-over games but are rotated out for the T20s.

Fast bowling prospect Mahli Beardman, 21, gets his chance in both squads after recovering from injury, while left-armer Spencer Johnson, highly-rated batter Ollie Peake and all-rounders Liam Scott and Jack Edwards also bolster the ranks.

Explosive batter Jake Fraser-McGurk makes his T20 return for the first time in over a year, while the uncapped Lachlan Shaw is promoted for the first time having made his name for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League.

Reflecting on the raft of changes, chair of selectors George Bailey explained: “We are in the middle of a highly demanding phase of our schedule.

“Our multi-format players are transitioning directly from the tour of South Africa into an ODI and T20 series, leaving a narrow window to ensure the squad is physically prepared and fresh for the upcoming New Zealand Test series.

“To manage this workload, each player’s build-up to the New Zealand series will be carefully planned and focused on individual’s physical and mental preparation.”

England play a warm-up match at the WACA in Perth on November 7 before the first ODI at Optus Stadium on November 13. Matches continue until the final T20 in Canberra on December 2.
