Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey accused fans of overreacting to the team’s recent struggles following the 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. His comments didn’t sit well with supporters and analysts.

On Thursday, former NFL tight end Shannon Sharpe called out the cornerback, saying the backlash is Humphrey’s own doing.

“He goes on his podcast and talks about the older fans,” Sharpe said on NightCap. “The fans, I’m sorry. The fans just want guys to play hard. Fans have a level of expectations. I’m sorry, Marlon. You did it to yourself. You were an All-Pro at one point in time. You went to the Pro Bowls, and now you look nothing like yourself. But guess what? If you spent as much time in your playbook or trying to get better as you do on your podcast, I guarantee you things would turn around.”

With the upcoming trade deadline in mind, Sharpe also suggested the Ravens become sellers and move older players off the team.

What Marlon Humphrey Said About Ravens Fans

Marlon Humphrey said he was disappointed with Ravens fans because of how they reacted even when Baltimore won.

“I’ve won a ball game and you know what someone said? They told me, y’all almost lost today,” Humphrey said on his podcast. “Like, did we win or not?”

Humphrey also discussed how fan criticism can affect the locker room. He referenced a conversation with defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, who apparently pointed out how negative perceptions among fans can influence players.

“[Anthony] Weaver [Ravens Defensive Coordinator] said something; one of the guys came in and was like, ‘Yeah man, it’s really not healthy, the stigma that’s like placed on us from our own fans,'” Humphrey added. “I don’t really care to do that, but it is somewhat; it’s possibly become infectious. Actually, I don’t really care that much… but some people really do.”

Following Humphrey’s comments, the Ravens dropped another game, a 33-10 blowout by Jacksonville on Thursday. Four straight losses have dropped them to 4-5.
