3 things from Charlotte's 119-80 defeat to Boston

The Charlotte Hornets suffered another blowout defeat Friday night, losing 119-80, their fourth loss by a margin of 15 points or more. The loss also marked Charlotte's sixth in a row after starting 3-1 through their first four games. Now at 3-7, the Hornets have dropped to the No. 11 spot in the Eastern Conference.

With Brandon Miller leaving the game in the second quarter with a groin injury, Naz Reid led the team in scoring, finishing with 14 points and six rebounds on 6-for-17 shooting. Tidjane Salaun and Sion James added double-digits off the bench, while rookie center Hannes Steinbach grabbed 11 rebounds in 27 minutes. For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum came out of the gates hot, scoring 18 points in the first quarter, finishing the night with a game-high 34. Derrick White finished with 18, while Payton Pritchard added 12 off the bench on four made 3-pointers. Prior to Charlotte's next matchup against the Cavaliers, here are three things to take note of.

3. Intangibles are everything

In the midst of a rough losing streak, Charlotte has to play with a greater sense of urgency. At times throughout the game, it felt like the Hornets were getting outhustled (excluding a few players), whether that was on the defensive end or on the glass. Considering Charlotte's youth and their recent struggles, upping the intensity and playing for each other should be one of the team's top priorities. Facing another tough opponent Monday (Cavaliers), the Hornets will have to bring the fight.

2. Concerning injuries

Against Boston, the Hornets lost one of their best players due to injury for the second game in a row. While head coach Charles Lee isn't willing to make any excuses, this is another tough blow for Charlotte, who've only had Miller, Kon Knueppel and Coby White available together for one game. Even that was short-lived, as Knueppel aggravated a previous hamstring injury six minutes into Wednesday's contest. The longer Miller, Knueppel and others remain sidelined, the lower Charlotte's ceiling will become.

1. It's time to change the offensive approach

While Charlotte is equipped with plenty of stellar 3-point shooters, the shots haven't been falling. While it's likely to get better before it gets worse, things haven't turned around yet, and the team is 10 games into the season. Not to mention, Knueppel, who led the league in 3-pointers last season, may be sidelined for an extended period of time. With these factors in mind, the Hornets need to make a whole-hearted attempt to switch things up offensively when 3-pointers aren't falling. Friday night's matchup was an opportunity to do so, but instead Charlotte kept trying their hand from long range, finishing the night 11-for-50 from beyond the arc.
