There’s no league quite like the EFL Championship. 24 clubs, 46 games and a season that rarely goes to script.
It’s the division where a 100-point side can miss out on the title, where a team with a negative goal difference can win promotion, and where one afternoon at Wembley can change a club’s future for good.
Since the old First Division was rebranded in 2004, the Championship has produced record-breaking strikers, miserly defences, last-gasp play-off winners and more than a few points deductions along the way. If you’ve followed it closely over the last two decades, this is your chance to prove it.
Our ultimate EFL Championship quiz is built to test even the most dedicated second-tier fans, and it doesn’t ease you in gently.
There are 30 questions split across three levels, and each one is tougher than the last. Level one, Opening day, covers famous seasons, records and memorable moments.
Level two, The run-in, digs into play-off drama, points deductions and Golden Boot winners. Level three, Play-off final, is where the real deep cuts live, with questions that will stump plenty of seasoned EFL watchers.
Here’s the catch.
You need at least seven out of ten in each level to move on to the next. Fall short at any stage and your season is over, so you’ll have to start again from question one.
After every answer, you’ll find out straight away whether you got it right, along with a fact about the moment behind the question. Even when you slip up, you’ll pick up something new to bring out the next time the Championship comes up in conversation.
Clear all three levels and you’ll win promotion. Plenty of fans will get through opening day, but far fewer will make it through the play-off final with their reputation intact.
Once you’re done, share your score on Facebook or X and challenge your mates to beat it. Find out once and for all who really knows the second tier best.
