Sam Darnold and Jaxon Smith-Njigba delivered the play of the game for the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night, producing a spectacular 43-yard touchdown connection against the Chicago Bears in their Week 8 matchup.
With just 30 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Sam Darnold aired out a beautiful, high-arcing pass that dropped perfectly into Smith-Njigba's hands for the touchdown. Running a terrific go-route, Smith-Njigba added a sensational look-back on a double move that got Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson to bite on the move and lose valuable ground in coverage. JSN then waltzed into the end zone, thwarting a final tackle attempt from Stevenson to give the Seahawks their first touchdown of the game and a much-needed spark before halftime.
Despite the highlight-reel moment, Seattle ultimately fell 34-17 at Lumen Field.
Darnold finished with 188 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and an interception on 17-34 passing. Smith-Njigba was outstanding, hauling in six receptions for 118 yards and the sensational touchdown that gave Seattle life in the game, which was his only one on the game. Both kept Seattle competitive in the first half and continued producing after the break, but Chicago's defense and offensive execution eventually overwhelmed the Seahawks, handing Seattle a disappointing loss in the end.
