Mayank Yadav is mostly recognised for his express speed. There are very few bowlers in international cricket who can consistently bowl around 150 km/h at the highest level of the game. Across the world, there were many fast bowler, who came with great pace but did not stay long for their respective teams.

Even in Indian cricket, there were multiple bowlers from the age division and from domestic cricket who climbed up the ladders and got their debut caps. Youngsters are always very fascinated by pace. Speed thrills, but it can damage a career as well.

Injuries are the worst nightmares for fast bowlers

Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond is a prime example of that. Bond was a generational talent when he first came into the international circuit, but constant injuries eventually cut his career short. In Indian cricket, from Ashis Nehra, Munaf Patel to Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, the list of seamers who dealt with injuries on repeated occasions is long.

Nehra and Patel played long for the India National Cricket Team, with reduced bowling pace. Mavi and Nagarkoti have been fading away slowly. Umran Malik could be another example, but he has issues with his line and length as well.

The case of Mayank Yadav could be similar to Shivam Mavi or Kamlesh Nagarkoti, but Yadav's mettle is different. Like Bond, Yadav also refused to reduce his pace even after being injured on several occasions. After making return for the Indian cricket team also after a two-year gap, he has been delivering at the same speed, which he used to deliver a few years back, when he emerged as a fresh talent.

Mayank Yadav made comebacks again and again

To succeed as a fast bowler at the top end of the game, every pacer should have the courage to take risks, the will to go through the grind, and a proper blueprint. Mayank Yadav has every necessary element in his bag. Since making his return to the Indian cricket team, he has shown grit, hunger, confidence, and courage.

On October 30, when Glenn Phillips and Michael Bracewell were toying with the Indian bowlers for fun in Auckland, Yadav was an exception, taking three wickets. Like the rest of the bowling unit, his economy rate was on the higher side, but he took valuable wickets. Whenever Phillips, Bracewell or Finn Allen took big shots against him, the 24-year-old replied strongly, either with pace or with bouncers.

Why is Mayank Yadav different from Shoaib Akhtar?

Pakistan legend Shoaib Akhtar also used to threaten the batters with his luxury pace and accurate short-pitched deliveries. But there is a certain difference between Shoaib Akhtar and Mayank Yadav. Unlike Akhtar, the Indian pacer doesn't show the physical or verbal aggression towards the batters.

While coaching the Lucknow Super Giants, Justin Langer once told Mayank that Shoaib Akhtar’s “aggressive personality” made him the fastest bowler he had faced. By nature, Mayank is calm, and he knows he is not the next Shoaib Akhtar. So, he works on his available resources.

"I am not aggressive. My nature is to be calm. I work around it on other things," he had told Star Sports.
