Liverpool would look to sell Harvey Elliott in January if his loan at Valencia is terminated, according to a new report.
The 23-year-old’s spell in La Liga has not been going to plan, with Elliott yet to start a game since joining the club on deadline day of the summer transfer window. He has made six appearances so far, with his performances having been subjected to some harsh criticism from the Spanish media.
Elliott’s nightmare got even worse in his latest outing after he was sent off against Villarreal, having been shown two yellow cards within seconds of each other, leading to his suspension against Elche at the weekend.
Now, there are suggestions that Valencia could look to try and terminate his loan. Should that happen, Football Insider claims Liverpool would look to offload Elliott permanently during the January transfer window.
According to the report, Liverpool sees no long-term future for Elliott at Anfield, and wants to try and cash in on him before his contract expires in 2028.
The suggestion comes after Valencia expert Julian Burgos told the Daily Mail that the Spanish club would look to get the loan terminated if the option is available - although that would require Liverpool to also be on board with the idea.
"At the moment, I don’t think he has adapted… he has been a significant disappointment, especially considering he arrived with the pedigree of coming from Liverpool.
"It is true that he has been putting in the work over the last few weeks, and he appears to be in better physical shape. Honestly, if the option to terminate the loan arises, Valencia will likely pursue it.
"With a new sporting director and manager – compounded by the team’s poor form – it seems they will look to undo many of the moves made by the previous sporting director, the Scotsman Ron Gourlay."
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Should Liverpool agree to Elliott’s loan being terminated, it would have more options open to it compared to when the same idea was floated during the England U21’s spell at Aston Villa last season.
Having played for the Reds at the start of the 2025/26 season, Elliott was unable to make an appearance for another European club, making a January transfer practically impossible for Liverpool to organize.
However, he has not made any competitive appearances for Andoni Iraola’s side this season, meaning the door would be open for Liverpool to send him elsewhere if his time at Valencia is prematurely ended.
