Veteran presenter Jim White has slammed a “big-mouth” Leeds United supporter after viral video footage emerged on social media showing iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson being shouted at Elland Road.

The incident occurred following the 1-1 Premier League draw between Leeds United and Manchester United in West Yorkshire on Sunday (18 October), with a short clip circulating rapidly across online platforms. In the video, an individual can be heard calling out to the legendary 84-year-old former manager before shouting an expletive in his direction as he made his exit from the stadium complex.

The footage has drawn widespread condemnation online, with supporters from across the football spectrum voicing frustration over the lack of basic courtesy shown towards one of the game’s most decorated figures.

Addressing the circulating video live on air during talkSPORT‘s coverage, White expressed visible dismay at the conduct displayed in the clip, questioning why an individual would choose to act in such a manner towards an elder statesman of English football.

White said: “I’ve only just seen that clip of Sir Alex Ferguson. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, Simon. We’ll get to it. Leaving Elland Road, and some big-mouth Leeds fan decided to let loose on him. I mean, the fella is 84, Sir Alex. Good grief. And it’s Sir Alex Ferguson. I mean, respect – where has it gone?”

Sean Dyche went on to hit out at the incident, describing it as a “disgrace”, while Simon Jordan echoed those sentiments, insisting that Leeds United would be “embarrassed” by it. Meanwhile, White’s frustrated reaction adds to a growing wave of discussion surrounding fan behaviour and stadium exits following high-profile Premier League encounters.

The host’s comments follow earlier reactions across national sports media, where analysts and broadcasters have debated the boundary between intense rivalry and unnecessary hostility towards legendary sports figures.

While matchday atmospheres across English football remain intensely competitive, particularly given the storied historical rivalries between West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester, White made clear that targeting an icon like Ferguson crosses the line from traditional banter into gratuitous disrespect.

With the video continuing to generate millions of views across X and other social channels, broadcasters and supporters alike continue to push for greater standards of conduct when interacting with individuals outside stadiums.
