Buffalo Bills bring back two defensive players in four roster moves

The Buffalo Bills brought back two familiar defensive players Tuesday as they prepare to face the Baltimore Ravens.

Buffalo signed outside linebacker Andre Jones Jr. and cornerback A.J. Woods to its practice squad. The team released cornerback Anthony Kendall and defensive lineman Austin Johnson to make room.

Jones returns to Buffalo five weeks after the Miami Dolphins signed him off the Bills' practice squad to their active roster.

The 6-foot-5, 258-pound linebacker appeared in three games for Miami before being waived Oct. 20.

Jones, 28, spent last season with the Bills, appearing in three regular-season games and one playoff game. He recorded five tackles during the regular season and another in Buffalo's playoff victory over Jacksonville.

He returned for training camp this summer and recorded nine tackles and a sack during the preseason before being waived in final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad.

Jones originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick by Washington in 2023. He has played in 22 career regular-season games, including two starts.

Woods, 25, is also returning for a second stint with Buffalo this month.

The Bills first signed him to the practice squad Oct. 6 before releasing him Oct. 20 to make room for former All-Pro cornerback Tre'Davious White.

Woods played alongside Bills safety Damar Hamlin at Pittsburgh in 2019 and 2020. He also spent four weeks on Denver's practice squad last season when current Bills defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard served as the Broncos' defensive pass game coordinator.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound cornerback entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Washington in 2024 and has also spent time with Philadelphia and Atlanta. He has yet to appear in an NFL regular-season game.

Kendall has been on and off Buffalo's roster throughout the season. He played 46 snaps against the Los Angeles Rams on Oct. 12 after being promoted from the practice squad, then was waived the following day and re-signed to the practice squad Oct. 14.

Johnson, 32, signed with Buffalo's practice squad Sept. 23 after spending the 2024 season with the Bills. He played in 15 games that year, recording 19 tackles, half a sack and two interceptions, which tied for the team lead.

The Bills (5-1) return from their bye week to host the Ravens (4-3) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, at Highmark Stadium.
