Pakistan produced a stunning comeback to defeat England by one wicket in a thrilling ODI Tri-Series encounter at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Chasing 242, Pakistan looked destined for defeat after slipping to 154/9, but Shadab Khan delivered a sensational unbeaten century to turn the contest around.
Shadab scored 113 not out and shared an incredible 89-run partnership with Haris Rauf for the final wicket, setting a record for the highest tenth-wicket stand in a successful ODI run chase. Rauf remained unbeaten on seven as Pakistan reached 243/9, sealing a memorable victory and booking their place in the Tri-Series final.
Pakistan’s chase looked to be falling apart as England’s bowlers kept taking wickets. Jamie Overton claimed three wickets, while Shaheen Shah Afridi earlier took four to restrict England to 241 all out. Ben Duckett’s century and Sam Curran’s 42 helped England recover from an early collapse and post a competitive total.
At 154/9, Pakistan needed an extraordinary effort to stay in the contest. Shadab took responsibility, finding boundaries regularly while ensuring Rauf remained at the other end. Even a dramatic LBW appeal against Shadab, who survived a review on 97 after UltraEdge detected an inside edge, could not stop Pakistan’s charge.
England came agonisingly close to ending the contest, but Shadab continued to find a way to keep the chase alive. He smashed Gus Atkinson for a six when Pakistan needed nine runs from the final ball of the over, before Rauf struck the decisive runs off debutant Henry Crocombe to seal the win.
The 89-run stand between Shadab and Rauf set a new record for the highest tenth-wicket partnership in a successful ODI run chase. Shadab finished unbeaten on 113 off 105 deliveries, while Rauf contributed seven not out from 19 balls, playing a crucial supporting role in the remarkable turnaround.
The defeat was another setback for England in the Tri-Series after their failure to defend 429 runs in their previous match. With Pakistan securing their place in the final, England’s hopes of progressing were left hanging by a thread.

Have we just been seduced by a couple of jaw dropping victories by Sri Lanka & Pakistan, or is it time for more ODI tri-series, like yesteryear? Somehow it all feels a bit more interesting #PAKvENG
