Luke Loucks has a bigger vision for FSU basketball

Luke Loucks is not limiting his job description to what happens between the lines.

As Florida State continues building the identity of its basketball program under Loucks, the Seminoles’ head coach has made student involvement and the atmosphere inside the Donald L. Tucker Center part of that process. FSU basketball recently shared a clip from Loucks’ press conference in which he explained why he has been willing to get creative in finding ways to bring more students and fans into the arena.

“If any decision impacts winning, I’m gonna be a part of it,” Loucks said. “And I do feel like getting students in and getting a packed arena impacts winning.”

Loucks said he is willing to explore different incentives and ideas to make attending Florida State basketball games more attractive. For him, the goal extends beyond simply increasing attendance. He wants the Tucker Center to become an environment opponents genuinely dislike entering.

“I’m gonna do just about everything I can to help our boys feel like they’re at a great home environment where it’s tough for opponents to come in and play us,” Loucks said.

The larger vision is much more ambitious.

Loucks believes winning can eventually change the relationship between Tallahassee and the basketball program entirely. Rather than having to convince people to attend games, he wants Florida State to reach the point where getting a ticket becomes the problem.

“I hope very soon, it’s going to be one of those things where we laugh about these days, where we’re doing things to get people to come to our games,” Loucks said. “Eventually, it’s going to be a situation where you can’t get in the games.”

Loucks knows that ultimately comes back to what Florida State does on the court.

“Winning to me is always contagious,” he said. "Especially in a town like this that appreciates winning and championships.”

For Loucks, building a winning culture at Florida State is not just about assembling a roster or installing a system. It is also about creating an atmosphere around the program that makes Seminole basketball feel like an event again.
