Heavyweight great Mike Tyson is widely considered to be one of the greatest fighters in boxing history.
‘Iron Mike’ had a lasting impact on the heavyweight division, making his professional debut as an 18-year-old back in March of 1985.
It took Tyson just over one year to capture world honours when he stopped Trevor Berbick in the 2nd round of their Las Vegas bout to claim the WBC crown and become the youngest heavyweight champion ever.
He produced wins over WBA champion James Smith and IBF champion Tony Tucker in the year that followed this historic victory over Berbick, earning himself undisputed status just days after his 21st birthday in 1987.
Speaking to ESNEWS, Tyson spoke fondly of three-weight world champion David Benavidez as he claims he is backing the unbeaten American star against all future opponents.
“I like him against everybody.”
“He’s so underrated but so over-polarised here. Listen, I’d be afraid to fight him too if I was in that division. No one even has a chance against him, and I’m talking facts.”
Benavidez, who is known as ‘The Mexican Monster’, remains unbeaten in 32 professional bouts since making his debut back in 2013, producing no less than 26 stoppage wins along the way.
The 29-year-old from Arizona was last in action back in May when he stopped Gilberto Ramirez in the sixth round of their clash at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas to capture the unified WBA and WBO world cruiserweight titles.
He is set to return to action in December for a fight against WBC champion Michal Cieslak, where a win there could then lead to a showdown with Jai Opetaia in May 2027.
