Derek McInnes believes Falkirk’s win over Celtic was “not really a shock”.
The Rangers manager was speaking on talkSPORT on Monday morning after Celtic passed up the opportunity to move seven points clear at the top.
Instead, a dreadful afternoon left Martin O’Neill’s side with nothing, as goals from Ethan Ross and Scott Tanser secured a 2–0 victory for the hosts.
There is plenty more in our latest Celtic news and transfers coverage.
McInnes joined Ally McCoist in praising McGlynn, highlighting how the Falkirk boss has kept his side competitive despite losing important players.
Discussing Celtic’s defeat, he said:
“The likes of John, you like to see good managers doing good jobs.
“Clearly they lost a few good players, and that’s normally the way. It’s difficult to keep them – especially at a club like Falkirk.
“You just see a good manager doing his work well.
“Although it seems a shock Celtic getting beat there, but it’s not really a shock when you see it’s Falkirk that win the game.
“Falkirk are capable of that, and they did that a couple of times last season as well.”
Falkirk certainly went into the game with confidence. Sunday brought their fourth consecutive Premiership victory and moved them into fourth place, with former Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain playing a major part in keeping the Hoops out.
McGlynn had his players organised, committed and ready to take advantage when Celtic made mistakes.
But the opposition’s form offers little comfort when the same concerns keep following Celtic from one match to the next.
Questions about the team’s structure and players’ responsibilities were already being raised before the trip to Falkirk. Sunday did little to ease them.
Celtic remain four points ahead of Rangers, having played a game more. That is still a lead, but another opportunity to strengthen it has been wasted.
The uncomfortable part is that a rival manager can describe a Celtic defeat this way and have a reasonable argument.
